384. John DOW was born on December 16, 1689. He died after 1758. John bought farm in Salisbury in 1731; prior residence since leaving father's home years previously is unknown. The children of his father by his first wife were all more or less austere Quakers who regarded with horror what seemed to them the wild life of the family by the second wife. This caused strife when John, as executor, settled the estate of his father.

BOD cites other marriages of John's: second, to Mary Challis, and third to Elizabeth Simonds. Correspondent Ruth Dow reports the marriage to Mary Clallis is erroneous, and it was in fact corrected by the author of BOD in 1932, after the book was published. In BOD, this John is adab. Ruth states that Mary Challis married to another John (R-3513), adaab, her cousin. Ruth also questions John's alleged marriage to Simonds, having found no record of it. Salisbury records show all of John's children as of Dinah. John DOW and Dinah SEVERANCE were married on January 6, 1714 in Salisbury, Essex, MA.⁷⁰

385. Dinah SEVERANCE was born on September 3, 1692 in Salisbury, MA.⁷¹ Robbins gives parents of Dinah as Ephraim and Lydia (Morrill) Severance. Ephraim (s. of John & Abigail) b. 2/8/1656 at Salisbury. Lydia was dau. of Abraham & Sarah (Clements) Morrill (Data from Ruth Dow). Ephraim & Lydia m. 11/9/1682 at Salisbury.

	vi.	Jemima DOW was born on March 30, 1727 in Salisbury, MA.72 She died on July 13, 1730 in Salisbury, MA.73
	vii.	Mercy DOW was born on April 5, 1730 in Salisbury, MA. She died on July 20, 1730 in Salisbury, MA.73
	viii.	Mary DOW was born on April 5, 1735 in Salisbury, MA.72 She died on August 3, 1736 in Salisbury, MA.73 Mary died of throat distemper. A neighbor lost all six children in this great epidemic.
