What is the Advanced Content Program?
The curriculum and instructional strategies for this course are differentiated in content, pacing, process skills emphasis, and expectation of student outcomes from the regular courses. Curriculum content has been designed for mastery and extension, of state and district content standards. The course is appropriate for students who have high achievement and interest in the subject area. The district has established criteria and guidelines that identify these students. Students are placed in this class according to specified indicators of demonstrated exceptional ability and motivation. Students must meet continuation criteria to remain in this class. (80% average)

How are student AC placements determined?
Sixth grade student placements are based on current (5th Grade) Iowa scores. In the seventh and eighth grade other factors may be taken into consideration.
Reasons not considered for change include: bored, doesn't like the teacher, or wants to be with friends.
How many AC classes will I have?
As stated above placement in sixth grade AC is determined by 5th grade Iowa scores. All Target students will receive one class and some may receive more.
-
When will I know what AC classes I have?
You will receive a schedule the first day of school. We would like to give out this information sooner but we may not know how many classes we can offer until pre-planning.
Please be aware that your first schedule may not be your final one. This is common. Classes must be arranged to meet state and federal guidelines.
Transfer Students
Students that have been identified as gifted in the state of Georgia are automatically enrolled in one AC class. However, we MUST have proof of gifted eligibility. Parents should bring this information with them when registering. If this is not available, placement will be delayed until the records arrive from the previous school.
Transfer Students from Another state: There is no reciprocity with other states. Records must be checked for Georgia eligibility.
-
Will my 6th grade AC placement be the same for all three years?
No. Student placements are evaluated on a regular basis.
-
Will I have to leave another class to come to AC?
No. You will come to your AC class each day. If you have AC Social Studies that will be your Social Studies class.
-
How are Math Placements arranged?
The Advanced Content Program does not handle Math scheduling. Accelerated Math is governed by Cobb County guidelines.
