Lhasa, Tibet's Capital, on a 12,000 ft high arid plateau is one of the worlds highest cities. Once the religious, cultural and the politcal center of Tibet it is now part of China and serves as the starting point for trekkers and climbers. The circle on the map contains the world's highest peaks including Everest. The team got a good view of this area on their flight from Kathmandu, as Greg reported in his 4/6 email. The dark green line is the road the team will take to Base Camp.
