Day 4
To Huanaco
Distance: 105 Km 65 miles
Climbing: 350 meters 1,100 feet
Ending elevation: 6,600 feet
Road Surface: Paved
An easy day! We started in the morning cold on a descent that was quite nice through a canyon for a while, then though a couple tunnels, small towns, mining operations, etc. We picked up some rain early on, but fortunately it didn't last all day. It gradually got warmer throughout the day as we got lower. We had a large net drop in elevation, and climbing was hardly noticeable. Turns out I didn't take any pictures today, so hopefully someone will email me some to add here.
We ended up in Huanaco, a medium sized city, fairly early - before noon if I remember correctly. The shower felt extra good after the fiasco last night. Some of us took taxis into town and walked around. I was able to visit an internet cafe and send an email home, from out here in the middle of the Andes.
We returned to the hotel for an early dinner, and got to bed by 8:30 for some much needed sleep. Here's a pic of the hotel - a strange setup where you could pull your car in next to your room.
Day 5 - Long day into rain forest
