Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico.  The Scuba Guy and more than a dozen Houston area divers invaded Cozumel in August 2003 resulting in the party of a lifetime.  The five-day extravaganza began with an on-time flight and a flawless noon check-in at the fabulous BRISAS COZUMEL RESORT HOTEL.  The divers did a couple of shore dives and a two-tank boat dive to jump-start the first day.  The group proclaimed Piña Coladas as the official drink of the group with Tequila shots being a close second in the hotel’s all-inclusive bars.

BRISAS is a hacienda-style 180-room resort with an on-site full-service PADI Gold Palm Dive Center that quickly became the rendezvous point for the group after the buffet breakfast each morning. The diving day started with two-tank boat dives with divers enjoying dive sites from Palancar Gardens to the San Francisco Wall.  Turtles were seen on almost every dive.  King Crab, Lobsters, and Sharks were spotted by the divers both in the water and on their dinner plates.  The beautiful Cozumel beaches and crystal clear water seemed to disappoint no one.

Each afternoon the group split up, some going to town for shopping, some making afternoon boat and shore dives, and some relaxing in one of the hotel bars.  The group met for dinner and recounted the day’s discoveries.  Night diving became the icing on the cake.  On the last day, some divers checked out Chankanaab Park while others took the ferry ride to Playa Del Carmen.

After checking-in at the Cozumel airport for the return flight, the group met one last time at the airport coffee shop and all agreed they had a great time and planned to make the trip again next year.
