1987 Pontiac Grand Am

This vehicle was put together for a friend of mine who wanted to compete in audio competitions for fun. The pictures that you will see are from a typical "Old School" type of install, as this car was put together in 1993. We claim responsibility for the entirety of the construction, with the exception of the door panels. These were sub-contracted to a "Professional Installer" at a local Car Audio specialty shop.

This vehicle competed off and on (mainly off) for a few years, earning several awards for Sound Quality, RTA, and Installation theme.

Please forgive the poor photography. These pictures were taken before the invention of digital cameras.

Thanks for your visit,
Bill Lawrence

Power is supplied through 2 gauge cable. This picture shows the circuit breaker, and the cable being routed through a grommet in the firewall.

This photo shows the power cable as it passes through the front seat frame. Holes were drilled into the frame so that the power cable would not disrupt the look of the carpet. Grommets were installed in the seat frame to protect the cable.

The power cable was routed down the entire length of the vehicle.

In the rear of the vehicle, there is a 1/0 gauge wire connected to one of the rear seat belt bolts. This ground wire connects to the stiffening cap and amp rack, supplying ground to the stereo system.

This installation used a dual isobaric bandpass enclosure with 4 Ten inch subwoofers.

This photo shows the three ports being installed in the sbwoofer enclosure.

This is another angle, just showing the ports in the enclosure.

This is showing the finished enclosure, with the back piece in place.

The enclosure was upholstered with grey trunk liner, and then placed in the front of the trunk. The Grand Am has a very small trunk, so we decided to use the area normally occupied by the spare tire for the amplifier.
