MECHANICS EXAMPLES

Notice on the photo below that the ball and glove are at the side as the signals are taken. The grip is not exposed for the batter. The left heel is raised, and will be placed back on the ground as the "load" begins.

In the next picture, the load has begun. The weight is transferred or loaded on the right leg. Imagine it as pushing down on a spring that you will let go. Also notice the ball is hidden as the final grip is being applied.

The picture below shows the explosion beginning. Note that the glove hand is not flailing but beginning to point directly at the target, which will help keep the shoulders and arms in line. As the glove continues to rise the entire body opens toward 3rd base. Also notice the height of the left foot and the drive from the previously loaded right leg. This pitch is a cut fastball which will break away from a right-hand batter. You can see the positioning of the fingers and the thumb which is on top and pointed at the target.

This final photo shows the finish. The pitcher is erect, not bent over. The pitch was a strike, and obviously did not need to be fielded, but if it had been hit, the pitcher is well balanced, and not falling toward first or third, and ready to field the ball.
