Matt Rader

Coach Matt Rader Matt Rader returns for his fourth year as the head coach of the Wissahickon Boys and Girls High School Water Polo Team. He is a 1995 graduate of North Penn High School and an alumnus of their swimming and water polo teams. Co-Captain of both the swimming and water polo teams in 1994-1995 he received Most Improved Swimmer, Rick Carrol Coach’s, and Career Most Improved Awards. Matt was a member of both teams under Bill Berardelli (1988-1994) and Bill Bartle (1994-2000) where he participated on the 1991-1992 State Championship Swimming Team, he received All-District Awards in 1994 and 1995 and All-State Awards in water polo and swimming in 1994-1995. He was also a part of the North Penn High School Boys Swimming streak of 215 consecutive dual meet wins, which is currently ongoing.http://www.northpennswimming.com

After high school Matt spent one year swimming at Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. Under the instruction of Dave and Bob Hauck he achieved Minnesota Interscholastic Athletic Conference All-Conference status, an 800 freestyle relay champion, and a MIAC Conference Championship. http://www.stolaf.edu/athletics/swimming

From Minnesota, Matt moved to the University of Richmond where he became a dual sport Division I varsity athlete. Playing water polo and swimming at Richmond, he received All-Conference honors in the Colonial Athletic Association. After both programs lost varsity status and funding due to Title IX gender equity he captained the Spiders’ water polo team to the Club National Championships in Tuscon, AZ in 1999 where they placed 2nd.

After high school and throughout college Matt coached Nor-Gwyn Aquatic Club in Upper Gwynedd, PA (1995-1999) during the Summer. Upon completion of his undergraduate education he began as head coach of the Methacton High School Boys Swimming Team. The youngest head coach in Methacton history, the Warriors sent nine swimmers to the District Championships with every Methacton swimmer achieving personal bests in his three years there. In 2001, Matt assisted North Penn’s girls water polo program with fellow former Nor-Gwyn coach Tory Young. The 2005 season begin at Wissahickon with an exceptionally talented group of boys and girls. Meanwhile, Matt is undergoing graduate education to receive his certification as a public school teacher. Until then, he is a special education aide in the Wissahickon Middle School.
