Wissahickon Spring Water Polo is a great way to get involved with the sport of water polo. We offer two divisions for all ages and abilities.
All practice is at the Wissahickon Middle School. Competition will take place at either Villanova University or the Haverford School. Get Wet - learn or improve your game.
Our objectives for the spring program is to develop Wissahickon senior level athletes of all abilities, provide our younger athletes with a fun environment to become involved with water polo, and to help the expansion of Pennsylvania water polo by allowing non-district athletes to participate.
We are pleased to have Coach Ryan McGrath join our program as an assistant coach. His energy and expertise will ensure high quality of instruction and breadth of training.
We are looking for Wissahickon Middle School boys and girls. Practices begin for high school and 8th grade on Monday, March 13, 2006 and continue through May 26, 2006. Younger Age-group practices begin on Monday, April 17, 2006 and continue through May 26, 2006. Contact Coach Matt Rader at Wissahickon Middle School Pool (215-619-8110 ext.2142), Matt Rader email(raderm@comcast.net and/or mtader@wsd.k12.pa.us), or stop in during practice.
Boys go to State Tournament!
This year's state tournament on November 4-5th was truly exciting. The Wissahickon boys played against a very talented field of teams. Although the boys did not win, it was an honor to compete with the best of Pennsylvania. With the exception of graduating senior co-captain Chris High, all these boys expect to be at this same tournament next year.
Congratulations to Greg Benz, Tom O'Connor and Rich Ryan who were named to All-State teams.
Boys win State Qualifier!
In an incredible thriller at Cumberland Valley, the boys water polo team won their State qualifier game against a tough, determined CV team. The action was back and forth all game. With .5 seconds left and down by one, goalie Tom O'Connor forced an overtime play-off period by scoring from half-pool.
It was a team effort in both the regular and overtime periods as the boys demonstrated resilience and a competitive spirit. They would not be denied!
