The Presario
desktops were designed with the internet in mind and they are nice little
mini-towers. The only drawback, which is common among most
mini-towers, is the limited expandability, ie., this model comes with only
3 PCI/ISA slots. In addition, it is known that much of my "upgrade"
multimedia hardware is either not supported yet or is in the process of
being supported in Linux some time in the near future, thus much of this
has been/will be configured in the Windoze 98 also loaded on this machine.
However, Linux support
is underway for most of this stuff and I'll
be trying these things whenever the drivers are released! Also,
since I run the Unix version of SETI@home software on this machine (which
is text-only), I wanted to see what the "graphical" screen saver version
would look like, so I downloaded it for my Windoze 98. In order
to run it, I'll need to upgrade the memory (only 28MB is currently available
for the system and the SETI@home software for Windoze needs at least 32MB).
