Since I and alot
of other Linux users are fans of internet multimedia, ie., audio/video
content available on the web today, I wanted to create a link page to point
you to some of the sites I've found that will help you to get setup for
a wonderful experience, previously only available to Windows or Mac users,
like streaming audio/video - all on your Linux box! There are currently
tons of mpg and CD audio players available, so I won't list those. You
can go here or here
to find some of them. I will however, list some unique Linux-friendly
multimedia apps, particularly those that offer video and streaming capability,
and can be used to hear/view multimedia at nearly 60% of the multimedia-encoded
net sites today. All of the below I have installed and except
for the Xanim, have working in SuSE 6.1 & 6.3 on my Presario 1267 laptop
as well as on Mandrake 6.5 on my multimedia desktop. I will also
list some Linux friendly (re: RealPlayer) sites that you might want to
visit. Also keep in mind that since Java is Open Source, it is something
that you will often find behind the multimedia sites as well, so it's up
to you whether to enable it or not in your browser.
I am always in search
of multimedia players - particularly streaming types, so please drop me
an email if you find one and/or
have successfully installed one, so I can try it and add it to the list!
Also, those interested in what's happening in the DVD and video on Linux
arena, you can go to OpenDVD.org or to
LiViD
for the latest.
