Building Websites Since 2001

My first website was for a Cub Scout Pack in North Georgia. From there I worked on many others as part of my occupation and also for personal goals.

Cub Scout Pack 99

This site is no longer on the web, but it served our pack from 2001 until about 2005. Offering a place to communicate with parents, leaders and others, it was well used and provided a great learning environment for my developing skills. Many an event whether it was camping, hiking, selling Expo tickets, pack meetings, den meetings, or whatever was documented by a photo gallery to remember the fun had. One of the last versions that was used for this site was one of the first where I used MySQL to load parts of the page dynamically and then only had to maintain the database for changes to the content.

P.E.A.C.H. Homeschooling

Parent Educators Association for Children at Home was a site launched for a friend who needed a way to keep homeschooled students and parents in Gwinnett County, Georgia informed (circa 2001). This site has moved on to another domain and is maintained by someone else. This screenshot is my version of the site which featured a couple of animated gifs: the letters down the left side would appear in turn and a wreath at Christmas-time had blinking lights, red then green.

Bethesda United Methodist Church

Stepped up to do the church website and become the Communications Committee Chairman all at once in 2004. This site is redesigned and it is currently managed by someone else. The image to the right was my design which featured a fly-in of the BUMC at the top created using Flash. Other graphics and photo treatments were my design as well.

Click here to see the fly-in.

Williamson Family Website

The Williamson Family website has lived wherever the web space was provided from my ISP or my place of employment. Currently it is located on space provided by Comcast. I use it to learn new techniques like the accordion panels using JavaScript and CSS features. The trivet photos (top of first center panel) are using the Dojo Fisheye technique. Other panels in the center have rotating photos to give a sample of Santa and WWII collections. The website gives far-away relatives easy and quick access to photos of family events they otherwise would miss out on.

It is available through this link: home.comcast.net/~bkw2855

Aldersgate Homes

A non-profit arm of the United Methodist Church, this organization helps to provide housing for those who cannot take care of themselves. The work I did on the BUMC website led the Director of Aldersgate Homes, Inc. to ask for my help with their website. It is still active and located at

www.gbgm-umc.org/aldersgatehomesinc

but it is redesigned and being managed by someone else now.

Divine Salon Spa & Gifts, Inc.

A partnership that has been ongoing since 2004 with Vanessa has given me the e-commerce experience along with PHP and MySQL skills and WordPress experience. The original website was mostly osCommerce and was heavily customized for her store. She has since changed to a brick and mortar store and now it is a robust WordPress blog and web presence. It is still maintained by me and is still going strong located at www.divinesalonspagifts.com/

SunDance Arabian Farm

A friend and client's horse farm in Alabama was the basis for this website and yes that is an actual photo of their farm taken at sunrise. The site held lots of photos from their many horse shows. It is no longer available on the web. The "A New Day Dawns at SunDance" rolled up and settled into place using Flash.

Electronic Theses & Dissertations

Created at UGA to replace a troubled process of collecting ETDs and tracking their metadata information via Excel spreadsheets. This website uses PHP and MySQL. It provides a way for students to enter all of the metadata associated with their theses and dissertations and then upload the actual document. The document is then transferred to the appropriate destination and when approved it is retrieved back onto the UGA Library's server.

getd.libs.uga.edu

The forms in the ETD application utilize LiveValidation, a standalone JavaScript tool which gives immediate feedback to the user as they type.

Access is restricted to folks with a MyID username and password.

Book of Rememberance

A tribute page available only at UGA which memorializes those who died in military, diplomatic, or other service of their country after graduating from UGA.

New Georgia Encyclopedia

A Digital Encyclopedia for the state of Georgia which covers many aspects within Georgia. This site is running on Oracle using Java, Jakarta Struts, Tiles, and more.

www.georgiaencyclopedia.org

The site has had 100% up-time since 2007 when I became the caretaker. I have enhanced the searching experience on the site and added my own graphics in a few places.

Galileo Statistics Reporting Tool

This website presents data compiled in other formats by another application. The data is transferred to a MySQL database and then extracted using PHP and ChartDirector.

stats-graphing.galileo.usg.edu

This site uses a lot of Javascript and CSS and the three left-most selection dropdowns use AJAX to populate their lists in a progressive manner -- using previous selections in the query for their lists.

Details about the application's performance can be found here:
