NEWS ITEM #1 - DE AIAA Section is conducting its annual program in support of National Engineers Week at ATK -Elkton. The program runs from Monday, February 16 through Thursday, February 19.

It's theme is: "Engineers Make It Work"


The details of the program are listed here and culminates with a Lunch and Learn on the 19th given by Ernie Sutton on the History of Elkton Operations at Noon. In the evening of the 19th there will be a Young Professional Hap-E hour in Elkton.

Part of the activities is a week long "Smarties" contest.


NEWS ITEM #2 - DE AIAA Section Won Five Out of Seven 1st Place Awards for 2007-2008 Year 


1st Place - The Outstanding Section Award is presented to sections judged on their overall activities and contributions throughout the year. The basis for this award is the Section Annual Report.

1st Place - The Communications Award is presented to sections that have developed and implemented an outstanding communication outreach program during the section year. Winning criteria includes the following: level of difficulty and complexity as well as timeliness, multiple methods of communications, frequency, format and content of the communication outreach.

1st Place - The Membership Award is presented for increasing the sections' membership by planning and implementing effective new member recruitment and retention campaigns.

1st Place - The Young Professional Activity Award is presented to sections that demonstrate excellence in planning and executing successful events that encourage the participation of young members in the AIAA and provide opportunities for leadership at the sectional, regional, and national levels.

1st Place - The Public Policy Award is presented to sections for stimulating public awareness of the needs and benefits of aerospace research and development, particularly on the part of government representatives, and for educating its members in the value of public policy activities.

3rd Place - The Career Enhancement Award is presented for section activities that are beneficial to career development, such as: Time Management Workshops, Career Transition Workshops, Career Benefits Workshops (health care reform, financial planning, pension portability, etc.), Technical v. Management Career Path Workshops, Resume Writing, etc.).

3rd Place - The Harry Staubs Precollege Outreach Award is presented to sections that have developed and implemented an outstanding precollege (K-12) outreach program that provided quality educational resources for the Nation's K-12 teachers in the areas of science, mathematics, and technology.
