Dear Fellow DE Section Members,

I am pleased to have the privilege to serve you as the Chairman of the Delaware Section of AIAA for a third term. Building on the foundation that was created in my first two terms, the goals for this term are to streamline our communications and maintain the number and type of programs for which the Delaware Section is known. Returning officers Treasurer Shannon Grady and Secretary Bernadette Goncz will continue to support the section in their current roles. I’d also like to extend a welcome Eric Spero to the Vice-Chair position. The remainder of the council is intact and will help produce our excellent programs.

This fall, our section will be rolling out a new website and branding that will better align us with the Institute. It will also feature an upgrade in its capabilities for elections, polls, data storage and generally provide a much easier way to find information about our section. Additionally, we will be investigating the possibility of our newsletter being distributed solely through e-mail. Many of you have expressed this as a desire, and we’re trying to respond to that wish. Lastly, I’d like to continue to carry forward our “When did you know?” campaign. From various feedback that we received, it appears to be having an impact amongst the membership. Thus, once we are through the council members, we will be looking for volunteers to share their “When did you know?” story, please contact either myself (410-392-1069,
Timothy.Dominick@ATK.com) or newsletter editor Jason Emperdor (410-392-1768, Jason Emperador@ATK.com).

Our Lunch Lecture Series, held monthly at ATK Tactical Propulsion and Controls Elkton Division, is designed to provide a forum for current working professionals to share some of their experiences, history, and general knowledge. For those who are looking to expand their horizons, the lunch lecture series can introduce you to a new specialty area or field of study that may end up becoming your new career. Many members and non-members alike attend these monthly lectures, and all members are invited and encouraged to attend. Anyone who may be interested in presenting at a future Lunch Lecture, please contact either Tim McCardell (410-392-1560,
Timothy McCardell@ATK.com) or myself (410-392-1069, Timothy.Dominick@ATK.com).

Besides this primary area of focus, the following is a brief look ahead at some of the other activities that our section will be participating in this year:

• Distinguished Lecture Dinner meeting in the September 2009
• National Engineer’s Week, February 2010
• AIAA Congressional Visits Day (CVD) in March/April 2010
• Bus trip to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C. in May/June 2010
• Rockets for Schools in May 2010

I look forward to continuing to serve you as the Chairman of the Delaware Section. If you have questions, comments, or ideas to improve the AIAA Delaware Section, please feel free to contact me or any of the section officers, and, remember, this is your section. Only you can keep the section strong. Your participation is the key to our success.

Timothy E. Dominick

AIAA Delaware Section Chairman, 2009-2010
