HOT BUTTERED RUM 

A GREAT CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY DRINK!

Makes 1 1/2 C

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 lb. dark brown sugar
  • 1/4 lb. (1 stick, 8 T or 1/2 C ) softened butter
  • 1 t  cinnamon
  • 1/4 t nutmeg
  • 3/4 t rum extract pinch of ground cloves*
  • can of whipped cream*
        *OPTIONAL
NEEDED ITEMS:

small mixing bowl
mixing spoon
measuring spoons: 1 t,3/4 t, 1/4 t
1 3/4 C container with lid
Pyrex measuring cup
shoot glass
10 oz. mugs
swizzle sticks

1. MIX all ingredients well in a small bowl.
2. STORE in 1 3/4 C container with lid.  At this point mixture can either be refrigerated or frozen until ready to use.
3. SERVE:Place 2  heaping tablespoons mixture in mug and 1 1/2 oz. ( 1 and a half jiggers or 3 T) dark rum.  Fill with boiling water.  Stir.  Topping  it with whip cream, sprinkle with nutmeg and adding a swizzle stick is great!
4. VARIATION: One can add 2 cups of softened ice cream and increase spices. Or, one can substitute vanilla extract for the rum extract.    Makes 128 oz. or 13 servings.
