Gouveia, Lotierzo, and Skiendziel
Elected to MAR Hall of Fame
Manuel Gouveia, Raymond Lotierzo, and Evelyn (Gouveia) Skiendziel were inducted into the Middle Atlantic Region Hall of Fame at the Middle Atlantic Region Spring Meeting on April 28th in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.
Gouveia, who was presented a plaque commemorating the event by his daughter Evelyn Skeindziel, started in Babe Ruth League as a coach in 1952. He served as coach and a League Officer for over 20 years before becoming the Northern New Jersey State Commissioner in 1974. He served in that capacity until 1990, when he became an Assistant Regional Commissioner for the Middle Atlantic Region. Manny is currently still on the MAR staff as a consultant. Manny's wealth of baseball knowledge and his love of the Babe Ruth Program have helped countless individuals over the years. He continually "sells the Program" when he travels to World Series annually. Manny received the Babe Ruth Baseball President's Award in 1982, the 1987 Middle Atlantic Region State Commissioner of the Year Award in 1987, and was inducted into the Babe Ruth League Hall of Fame in 1998.
Skiendziel began volunteering at the Clifton (NNJ) Babe Ruth League as a scorekeeper at age 9. She later became an assistant coach for a 13-15 year-old team in her local league. In 1975, Evelyn became an Assistant State Commissioner in Northern New Jersey, a position she held until 1990. In 1991, she became an Assistant Regional Commissioner for the Middle Atlantic Region. She continues to serve in that capacity today. She has served as Tournament Director for numerous State and Regional Tournaments. Evelyn has served on the Babe Ruth League World Series Task Force since 1991, and has traveled throughout the country organizing the events for various Babe Ruth World Series. She is involved with the newly formed Babe Ruth League Alumni Association. She serves on the Task Force for that association and publishes the group's newsletter. Evelyn writes and distributes the MAR newsletter, records and distributes all MAR Meeting Minutes, and takes care of the scheduling for all of the Middle Atlantic Region's 11 Regional Tournaments.
Lotierzo began as a coach in the Maple Shade Babe Ruth League in 1965. He was an Assistant State Commissioner, and in 1987 became the State Commissioner for Southern New Jersey. In 1996, Ray was appointed the Middle Atlantic Regional Commissioner and a member of the Board of Directors of Babe Ruth League, Inc., positions he still holds today. As a State and Regional Commissioner, his dedication and knowledge have proven to be invaluable to many. He has been instrumental in developing individuals to take on more active roles in the Program. Under his guidance, many have gone on to take positions throughout Southern New Jersey, the Middle Atlantic Region, and beyond. He is the consummate supporter of Babe Ruth Baseball and has traveled extensively promoting the Program and recruiting new leagues.
