Florence WILD

Text Box: Game Reports

Jumping from an undefeated season in Flite 7, Flite 4 provided a new challenge for the Wild.  Find out how the team did at the next level.

The second season...

September 7, 2008 started us off with a little controversy.  The home team, the Washington Township Tiger Sharks, had us on a full sized field without lines or goals that met SJSL requirements.  With some negotiations and a desire to play, the game went on.  The Wild was quickly down by a couple of goals before the team realized the level of play that was needed at this level of competition.  Instead of getting down, the defense stepped up and didn’t allow another score while the offense hammered in shots on net, and in the end, kept the Wild winning streak alive.

September 14, 2008 Home vs. Swedesboro-Woolwich Storm:  This was a fast and tough game.  The kids are really playing as a unit now.  Congratulations Wild on your Fall home opener win.

September 21, 2008 Home vs. Hainesport Olympic Rangers A: Another fast game.  This was a real back and forth match, but again the Wild prevail.

September 28th— at the Millville Crush: Poor sportsmanship on and off the field.  Too bad there were no restraining lines, which were sorely needed.  Good for the Wild for keeping composure and not losing their cool….or the game.  The winning streak remains alive.

October 5th—hosting Highland Soccer Club: These guys were fast but the Wild kept the ball at their end of the field for most of the game, keeping their perfect record going.

Columbus Day Weekend Tourney (Report from Coach Swanson)—

Game1 against a Top Notch team from Hockessin SC (Delaware). Hockessin was very well trained & coached. (very impressive positioning play) Tough first half back & forth. Wild gave-up first goal late but tied up before half. Wild came out strong 2nd half. Tighten defense up & Had our offense/mid field pressure shot after shot. Wild finish well & prevailed over a very good team. Very impressive win!

Game 2 against West End Eagles (NJ). Wild had only 9 players (8 healthy) for this game. Wild Gave up first goal again. Game was rough & Wild
missed their 4 biggest player. Wild Goalie played very strong and had some key saves not allowing another goal, until Wild picked up and dominated play. Nice mix of goals by both starters & Subs. Wild Players were exhausted by end of game but all enjoyed big win.

Game 3 against Solebury Crew (Pa). Wild Was back at 11 players for game.  The Crew looked good and Wild started slow again giving up 1st. goal.
But Wild step-up and score a few beautiful goals. Controlled defense & won a game closer then expected.  Very nice weekend  weather, Great competition, & pleasant coaches & fans of opposing teams. Plus going 3-0.

October 19th—hosting the Washington Twp Tiger Sharks:  It was the Wild’s turn to host the Tiger Sharks and events leading up to the game were a lot easier than our first match.  The game started smoothly and both teams came to play.  Everyone played tough, but it was the Wild that came out on top.

October 26th– at the Swedesboro-Woolwich Storm: Very physical game between two very good teams.  The Wild started out fast with a lot of good passes early on scoring an early goal and never looked back.  It was a tough win that was well earned.

November 2nd– at the Hainesport Rangers A: This time it was the Wild’s turn to visit the Rangers.  As was the first meeting of these teams, the game was fast and physical, but the results were the same.  Congratulations again to the Wild!

November 9th– hosting the Millville Crush:  A very different experience from our first meeting, the Millville crowd was a pleasure to host.  While the visiting keeper took a nasty ball to the face, he shook it off and performed great.  However the Wild started slowly but came up to speed by halftime to ensure another victory.

November 23rd—at the Highland Raiders: The game was postponed due to poor field conditions from the 16th, but the break didn’t slow down the Wild.  Neither did the icy cold conditions.  The starters dominated the first half against a quick Highland team, but the passing skills were the difference to end another perfect session for the Wild!  Congratulations kids!
