Sponsors

The Silver Spinners wish to express our appreciation to the following organizations and individuals who have assisted or continue to assist us. Without their help the Silver Spinners would not exist.

Organizations

The Keizer Lions Club: The Keizer Lions donate the use of the Keizer Lions Hall every Wednesday night for our dances. Without them we would not have a place to dance! If you are intersted in learning more about the Keizer Lions Club call (503) 390-1172.

Individuals

The following individuals have either contributed funds, services, or supported the Silver Spinners in some way that deserves special recognition. The Silver Spinners wish to express our appreciation to the following people:

Shirley McWhirt: Shirley was a very special member of the Silver Spinners. She would bring refreshments every week for the club dance. Although she did not have a disability she took time out of he busy schedule to be with us every week. Shirley would assist people in a manual wheel chair by pushing them through the square so they could dance (people who push the manual wheel chairs are called "Motors". Shirley was taken from us unexpectedly due to an illness. Her family designated the Silver Spinners as one of the charities that people could donate to in her name and created the Shirley McWhirt Memorial Fund. We miss her a lot.

JoAnna & Jim Gaumond: JoAnna and Jim were the people responsible for starting the Silver Spinners. JoAnna saw the Rolling Squares in Portland Oregon, square dancing. She decided that square dancing was something that she and Jim could do together. She found other people with disabilities who wanted to try it, recruited a caller, and found a location to dance. JoAnna was the first president for the Silver Spinners. Thank you JoAnna for your vision, and your tenacity in starting the Silver Spinners.

Al & Nadene Ross: Al Ross was the first club caller for the Silver Spinners. Al donated his time and efforts to the club. Where other callers felt that it could not be done, Al took on the challenge and proved that it could be done. Al started the club with a little over one square and taught them to square dance. He had to adapt a few of the moves so it would be easier (or even possible) for persons in a wheel chair to square dance. Al called for the Silver Spinners for over 3 years. Thank you Al.

Bruce Lowther: Bruce Lowther is the current caller for the Silver Spinners. Bruce has been calling for the Silver Spinners since August 1996. Bruce is there every Wednesday and participates in demonstrations volenteering his time and equipment. Thank you Bruce.

Glenn Tadina: Glenn Tadina is the original cuer for the Silver Spinners. Glenn, his wife Merideth, and their son Trent Minor were one of the original members of the Silver Spinners. After attending a wheel chair square dance convention in Vancouver B. C., Glenn decided to learn how to cue round dances for the Silver Spinners. Glenn taught himself how to cue the wheel chair round dancing and taught the club members how to round dance. Thank you Glenn.
