What happens when the power goes out?
Yes Virginia, the power goes out in VT too! Unlike
many other small Inn’s, the Blue Gentian Lodge does have a propane
fired back up generator. There is a toasty fireplace in the main
building for our guests to snuggle by, but after an hour or so
of no running water, no lights, and no heat the romance wears
off and it can become a serious situation at -40 degrees on a
cold winter night. So don’t fret! If the power goes out
for more than a little while you won’t be packing up the
car for a miserable ride home in a storm; we’ll simply
start up the generator and you’ll be hunkered down with
a cup of hot cocoa for the evening waiting for the storm to blow
over.
Do I have access to the kitchen?
No, unfortunately for sanitary and safety
we do not allow guests to use the kitchen facilities. We recognize
that guests frequently have items needing refrigeration, so for
your convenience there is a refrigerator in the rear of our dining
area. There is also a small quantity of soda that can be purchased
for .50 cents a can.
Do you have a bar/liquor license?
No, the Blue Gentian Lodge does not have a liquor license.
What does this mean for you? We allow guests to enjoy a glass
of their own spirits by the fireplace, or with a meal that
we are serving. Please drink responsibly and at your own risk.
Exactly
what should I expect for breakfast?
Normally, breakfast is served from 8-9am.
For groups needing a different time, we can make arrangements
the evening before. There is always a selection of cereal
(including our famous house granola), fruit, and most days
a hot cereal is served. The house blend of hot cereal is
a 7-grain and seed mix, absolutely delicious. Both our granola
and 7-grain hot cereal can be purchased at the Lodge. Don’t forget the coffee, juice, milk, cocoa and
hot cider too. In addition, we cook one entree each morning such
as Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs
& Toast, Waffles, or French Toast.
What
do Innkeepers do when no one is around?
Paperwork, gardening, laundry, pool and hot tub maintenance,
ordering and gathering supplies, major renovations, minor repairs,
general maintenance (I hate window washing), answering the telephone,
volunteering in the community, cleaning rooms, making beds, (of
course!), painting, plumbing, you name it!
What
are the rooms like?
There are 13 guest rooms at the Blue
Gentian Lodge. Eleven of them are approx. 14 x 14 in size.
The other two are approx 7 x 7 in size. All rooms have their
own private bathroom, cable TV, and individually controlled
heat. We do not have air conditioning. All but one has a
view overlooking scenic Magic mountain. The first level rooms
each have a small deck in the rear of the building for easy access
to the pool. One room has a wheelchair accessible shower. Eleven
of the rooms have been fully renovated and we expect to have
the other 2 completed in a year or so. To accommodate the needs
of many, there is a variety of bed configurations in each room.
They are as follows. (Click on room to see image)
Do
you have a Pool & Hot Tub? Click
to see it.
Yes, there are both a pool and hot tub in the back yard.
The pool is heated and is generally open from Memorial Day
thru Labor Day weekend. There is also a lovely screen house
with lots chairs for guest to sit and relax at. The hot tub
is fully operational year round and can seat approx. 5 people.
It is reserved for adult use only.
What
makes Blue Gentian Lodge (and Vermont) so special?
Indeed, we have been told by many
that the Blue Gentian Lodge has a special place in many
people’s hearts. Folks will
always come to Vermont for rest and relaxation, and those that
come through our doors typically comment on how peaceful and
rejuvenating their stay with us was. Be it the ever changing
colors of the mountain, the fresh crisp air, the warm relaxing
atmosphere, or the feeling of being at your home away from
home; since we are at the base of Magic Mountain, our catch
phrase is ‘The Magic begins Here’!
And truly, it is Magical.
One day you could arrive and one of our guests might be playing
tunes on our old-time Steinway piano, another day, you could
encounter a yoga or Ti Chi class, another day a community
quilter group, and the next, a bunch of outback cross-country
skiers.
