The
Blue Gentian Lodge was built in 1962, (2 years after Magic Mountain
Ski area came into existence) by the Littleton Family where they
successfully ran it for 10 years. In 1972, Mr. Littleton passed
away, and the lodge was sold to the Kidde Family where they raised
a family and ran the lodge for the next 24 years. The latter
portion of their reign at Blue Gentian was not their most fortuitous
as the Ski area closed, the children grew up and moved away,
and then Mr. Kidde passed away. The lodge fell into disrepair.
The Lodge was purchased by the present owners Lisa
Sicotte and Kenneth Alberti in July of 1994. Needless
to say with the closing of Magic Mountain Ski 1989,
the depressed condition of the surrounding area, as
well as monumental task of renovating the Lodge itself,
we considered it ‘a leap of faith’,
and sometimes seriously questioned our sanity as to why we
ever purchased ‘The Money Pit’.
Not with out a lot of blood sweat and tears, did the ‘fixer-upper’
finally started to shine! It took plenty of years, dollars,
man/woman hours, planning, saving, and soon enough the building
was working for us instead of against us. The whole neighborhood
started to take notice.
One of the most important aspects of our renovation
goals was to make sure that everything we added, changed
or updated looked like ‘it was always there’,
in accordance with the original design concept of the
building. Therefore, to the casual onlooker it might
not seem that we have done a lot, but we have!
