My official title was "Agriculture-Forestry Volunteer". My challenge was to raise the awareness of predicted environmental threats, and to implement sustainable resource management practices in the hope of nurturing and fostering the Gambians' well-being.
We joined hands for the sake of survival. We implemented sustainable land usage practices, planted trees, established gardens and irrigated the land with the river, and our understanding of the Earth and each other devolved.
We shared with each other. We shared the perspectives of our lives. They told me ancient ancestral stories by the fireside. We prayed, ate, sang, danced, and laughed together. We shared smiles absent of words yet full of love. We enriched each other's lives by our togetherness.
