The following is a letter to the editor that I submitted
to Newsweek on August 13, 2002. Editor, Newsweek: In “Burned! Why we need to fix the 401(k),” Jane Bryant
Quinn states that CEO’s are rock-stars who skim profits. She joins the
media-frenzy in condemning all businessmen as crooks who wish to inflict as
much damage as possible on their employees’ 401K plans. Nine companies have made the news for
fraudulent business practices, but what about the 17,000 publicly-held
companies that haven’t been cited?
Would she have us believe that their CEO’s are crooks as well? If Ms. Quinn were truly concerned
about workers saving more for retirement, she could recommend that Congress
cut taxes further instead of adding more regulations to America’s producers. I respectfully recommend that Ms.
Quinn read Ayn Rand’s inspirational novel Atlas Shrugged. - Bob Murphy |
