To make a totem pole you will need:

paper towel tube
styrofoam block, 3" X 1"
drawing paper
pencil, ruler and scissors

crayons, paints and brushes, or markers

1. First make the base of the totem pole. With the compass draw a circle in the center of the base that is equal to the diameter of the tube. Then cut out the circle. Be sure the tube fits snugly into the hole. Remove the tube and set it aside.

2. Draw two long strips 3" X 10" of Indian designs on the drawing paper. Or else enlarge this graphic.
Drawn to 1/2 scale.

3. Paint the Indian designs. Base can be painted if desired.

4. Cut out along the outside outlines of each strip.

5. Paste the decorated strips on opposite sides of the tube, leaving 1" of the tube showing at the bottom. Glue the bpttom of the tube securely into the hole in the base.
