I was cruising around the internet the other day reading stories from “alternative” news pages and something jumped out and grabbed me. It was a story about an Illinois appellate court allowing the families of a slain Chicago police officer and four other innocent by-standers to sue gun manufacturers and distributors. I have read many articles on this same sort of thing; families being allowed to file bogus law suits against tobacco companies when their idiot loved ones didn't have enough sense to stop something that was killing them; a father who left his loaded gun where his son could get at it being allowed to sue the manufacturer when his kid blew his own head off……enough already!
I would be the first person to offer my condolences to the families of the people killed in this horrible crime. No one wants to see a police officer lose his/her life. I know I certainly don't. For that matter, I don't want to see anyone lose their life. However, that officer knew that the job he/she did carried the possibility of death. The family of the officer knew the job carried the possibility of death. What is the problem here? The officer made a conscious decision to do something that might kill him/her, and unfortunately that happened. So please explain to me how the gun manufacturers and distributors bear any responsibility for the officer's death. Hell, they are in business of making and selling weapons. All perfectly legal. They have to jump through hoops, buy all sorts of permits and pay all sorts of fees in order to be in the business that they are in. Now they are being asked to take responsibility for the actions of some deranged idiot(s). Look, if the killer(s) legally purchased the weapon(s) (and that is a damn big IF), being sure to pass all the bullshit background checks (which don't really seem to be solving anything, do they?), and the distributor made sure all the i’s were dotted and all the t’s were crossed on all the federal forms, then the manufacturers and distributors should not be held liable for anything. They followed the law….period, end of story. Yet folks like Jennifer Duncan-Brice, the liberal weenie circuit court judge in Chicago (the hyphenated last name sorta gives her away), thinks that we should hold all gun manufacturers responsible for any gun related crime. I will fall back on something I wrote in my Gun Control Idiots page, “guns don't kill people, people kill people”. Why that is such a difficult concept for the liberal crowd to understand is beyond me.
The article goes on to quote the Illinois State Rifle Association. “If the court's logic was extended to other industries, any number of products could be found unlawful. For example, manufacturers of hypodermic syringes must know that their products will be used to inject illegal drugs''. Amen! Next thing you know the courts will be telling automobile accident victims that it is ok to sue the car manufacturers.
I guess the thing that annoys me the most is the knowledge that cases like this are based on a hidden liberal agenda. The REAL reason that these judges are allowing these kinds of lawsuits is that they are part of the “get rid of guns” or “get rid of tobacco” crowd. Now, I am not a lawyer, nor am I very well versed in the letter of the law. However, I seem to remember from my high school government class that the judicial branch of our government is there to enforce and uphold the laws created by the legislative branch of our government, not to enforce a social agenda.
Cases like the one discussed in this article are nothing more than reactionary, feel good, bullshit. Everyone feels sorry for the victims families, and they should. However, going after hard working, law abiding people who just happen to manufacture and sell guns isn't the answer. If they want to do something when a horrible crime like this happens, find the person that did it, put them on trial and, if found guilty, give ‘em a good old fashioned public execution. Betcha that would put a stop to a lot of these types of crimes.
We as Americans must remain vigilant. We must see these things for what they are; horrible tragedies that the liberals in this country use as excuses to further erode our Constitutional rights. Raise your voice; let them know that what they are doing is un-constitutional. Raise holy hell with your Congressmen. Do something…..anything! We have to put a stop to this march towards social oblivion.
