The following is what I know about the using the Pioneer GEX-P7000TV tuner with the 99 Acura 3.2TL factory navigation system. This information is mainly based on what I learned after spending many hours reading threads on both acura-tl.com and clublexus.com. I have to especially thank user “VideoNavi” at clublexus.com for information to get my system fully operational. I am not the one that came up with this modification and am grateful for everyone that has contributed information in one way or another. This is a pretty significant project that takes time and will most likely void the Nav portion of the factory warranty. It may also damage your navigation system if not done properly. I would not attempt this project alone if you are not experienced with car stereo installs and car wiring in general. This is definitely a hack, but when you complete it you will wish you had done it sooner. I realize that most of this information has already been posted in one way or another, but hope this page will save time and be complete enough to help simplify the installation for others. Remember to be careful!!

Disclaimer
I am sharing this information to try and help others. The wiring and information works great in my car. There are definitely risks to this project and I am not in anyway responsible if this doesn’t work out so well for you. If anyone sees mistakes in my work, please share them with others and me.

Xantech Infrared Repeater (780-10 and 789-44) www.xantech.com
This works great because it will repeat most infrared signals and has 4 outputs for stick on emitters. I just cut the tabs off and used Velcro to mount the 780-10 receiver in the opening between the heated seat switches and put the 789-44 output-connecting block in the trunk. Velcro is best in the front because the OBD-II connector is located behind the removable plate between the heated seat switches. This is where the dealer needs to hook up for diagnostics. When you use the Xantech, it does not matter what type of DVD, VCR, etc you put in the trunk, because the remote control will work from the front. It also reapeats the GEX-P7000TV remote control signals.

AN-G3 Antenna
When I first received the antennas I was surprised how big they were and thought they would look gaudy. Since my windows are tinted I decided to install them anyway and they don’t look too bad. It works well and I get pick up the channels I would expect to in my area. I get a kick out of watching Jerry Springer at lunchtime.

Diagram
This is a diagram of how my system is currently set up.

Infrared / OSD Interface
Since the GEX-P7000TV does not have an infrared input, you have to use a 276-137 infrared detector from Radio Shack. You also will need a LM1881N Sync seperator (www.digikey.com) in order to get the GEX-P7000TV on screen menu to display on your navigation screen. Since there is not a great spot to mount these components, I decided to just make a little circuit board with screw type terminals on it for easy connection. See drawing.

GEX-P7000TV Cable
The unit comes with a cable that you will need to cut in half. The red end of the cable plugs into the “to navigation / AV master” socket and the green plugs into the “to front monitor” socket on GEX-P7000TV. You will have to carefully strip the other ends and pick out the necessary wires for connection to your display and navigation unit. You must insulate all unused conductors so that they do not touch each other or anything else. You will see me refer to these cables as “cable with red connector”, and “cable with green connector”.

Navigation Factory Wiring Harness
You will need to cut into the factory wiring harness but the good news is it’s only 4 wires. When and if you sell the car it would be pretty easy to make it look stock again. The wires that you need to cut are the white, red, yellow, and green wires coming out of the 12 pin connector on the back of the navigation unit. You will then end up with 8 wires. The 4 that are coming from the navigation unit get tied to the red connector cable on the GEX-P7000TV, and the 4 going to the display tie to the green connector cable. Note: My car is a 99. I believe that they have kept the same colors, but you may want to make sure.

Blitz Safe Adapter
I highly recommend getting this adapter in order to get the best DVD audio. I used the FM Modulator for a while, but the DVDs just didn’t sound that great. The Blitz Safe is the only way to go and plugs right into the cd changer input in the back of your factory stereo. You do have to keep the FM Modulator that comes with the GEX-P7000TV installed however to get TV audio.

Parking Brake
In order for the GEX-P7000TV to display TV or Video the parking brake wire has to be grounded. This can be done properly through the parking brake, or just directly grounded so the TV and Video will work at all times. (It is illegal however if you get caught watching while driving)

Pioneer Monitor
You do not need a Pioneer monitor for this install. If you install the LM1881N as shown, the GEX-P7000TV menu will display on your Nav monitor. If you don’t install the LM1881N, you will have to set it up blindly meaning you push a sequence of buttons on your remote control without ever seeing the menu. There are 4 menu screens, which can be accessed by pushing the menu button on the remote. Press menu once for the first menu screen, then press menu again to get to next one, until you get through them all. Within a menu screen, you use the up and down arrows to select items, and use the right and left arrows to change items. With patience, you will get through this, but it takes a bit. Once the GEX-7000TV menu items are set properly, the remote is pretty easy to use without the on screen display. My feeling is that if you are taking the time to do this install, you may as well just get the on screen menu working.

Opening the GEX-P7000TV
There is no reason to open the unit. There are no internal modifications necessary.
