A BUDGET FOR ALL BOSTON RESIDENTS
*Ensure that Boston's budget, unlike recent years, does not spend beyond its means, that there is a "rainy day" fund for bad economic times and that programs receive funds based on a real benefit to city residents and not on any special interests who may manage to get the ear of the Mayor.
One example of possible skewed budget spending is in the public health department. Over a recent 3 year period
some 300 hundred Boston residents died from AIDS while during the same period nearly 3300 residents died from cancer-related illnesses. Despite this, the monies allocated by the city government for AIDS is nearly $15 million while the allocation for cancer is under $1 million. We all realize both AIDS and cancer are serious health problems but Boston's budget should be scrutinized to ensure that every dollar spent benefits equally all city residents and is not driven by political correctness .
