Banjo Bob's lesson culminated with next week assignment of My Grandfather's Clock. Janet Davis tab.
Banjo Bob My Grandfather's Clock demonstration.Google reports over 2,600,000 Banjo Bob's hits on Sunday May 3, 2009.
Janet Davis got only 410,000 hits.
What's going on?
We figured it out. Google confused this Banjo Bob with Cedar Crest Banjo Bob.
This confusion will not hurt Cedar Crest, NM Banjo Bob business.Johnny Cash My Grandfather's Clock.

Banjo Bob emphasized that timing is more imporant than hitting the right notes.
Good banjo, Bob stresses, should sound like a machine gun.
So bill is working on timing with limited, yet increasing sucess. For a senior citizen ... exactly 45 days younger than Saddam Hussein.
Saturday November 29, 2008 banjo lesson, Bob worked again with bill on timing.
Bill's timing sucks. And has for over 50 years.
We had a discussion on how a metronome should be set. One beat [click for the Cherub] per quarter note or one click per eighth note.
Bob used on per quarter note. Bill experimented one per eighth after reading below web side.
Bob loan Banjo for Dummies to bill to try to discover what metronome setting were recommended.
Bob assigned, then wrote out
Bill googles Banjo in the Hollow and found
1 Cascade banjo & Chia the pug made an appearance.
2 Rick McKeon.
Rick McKeon homepage.
So let's work on timing on both.
Banjo Bob's and bills conversation of correct metronome use was recorded in mp3 format!

Week of November 22, 2008 banjo lesson is study of Chapter 2, Counting Out Notes in Music Theory For Dummies.
Question is one click of a metronome = 1 whole note, half note, quarter note?
Banjo Bob did not say.Using Your Metronome. Because you will be practicing chords and scales while learning the guitar, it just makes sense that you practice them in time. This way you will develop the technical ability for your fingers to remember the scale and chord shapes and at the same time learn to play them in time. It only takes a little extra effort to practice this way but pays huge dividends in your playing.
Another good way to use a metronome is as a tool to gauge you progress. By starting on a slow tempo and working your speed up, you can see how much progress you are making, set goals, achieve the goals and move onward!
Hints:
1) Always play slow and clean.
2) Start with quarter notes (1 note per click)
3) Advance to eighth notes (2 notes per click)
4) Do triplets too! (3 notes per click)
5) Keep track of you metronome speed settings and try to improve them.
6) Move your foot up and down with the down matching the click.

Sunday September 7, 2008 we purchased a Sony ICD-UX70 1GB stereo digital audio recorder which records in mp3 mode. All for $99 at Office Depot.
Major attraction is that the ICD-UX70 is equipped with a usb interface.
ICD-UX70 is capable of transferring file from it to a pc and transferring mp3 file from a pc to the ICD-UX70!
We were curious how it would do with recording a banjo.
Pardon the banjo mistakes. We were focusing on button pushing, not better banjo playing.

Sony's ICD-UX70 usb implementation is very impressive for many reasons. Trust me.
Drag and drop is supported to move mp3 files to and from the ICD-UX70.

Thanks for your email, and the link to see your Vega banjo. Just to be sure, the Vego is an open-back banjo, yes? My reply to you is based on that assumption. If so, is he pot size 11" or 12" ?
Here is a list of all 5-string open back banjo cases I sell, sorted by price:
5-String Open-Back Banjo Cases (sorted by price) http://www.finecases.com/browse/cases/folk-family/banjo-cases.html?powerSort=5-S tring%20Open-Back%20Banjo%20Cases&sort=3
From this list you will see several choices for under $120. It all depends on what features you are wanting and what size pot assembly your Vega has.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can be of further service in any way. I remain,
Sincerely,

for reason
Hanway's book and accompanying cd are very well done in my opinion.
Folkways Records.
Perhaps one of the most technically perfect banjo performance was the Irish Washerwoman recorded
played by
Pete Roberts.
Spanish fandango and Irish washerwoman.
Oren Jenkins and Pete Roberts performed the below on the above record.

Bill started play a Kay plectrum banjo in about 1951/2. He took lessons from a tennis professional.
Johnny St Cyr inspired bill.
Then he switched to a 5-string Stewart banjo with ivory friction pegs.
In 1962 he switched to the Vega seen on this page.
Banjo books back then were rare.
Bill has not been picking for over 20 years but is resuming with lessons from Bob.Monday August 25, 2008 14:35
I registered the Korg I bought from you on Saturday and discovered
Check out Korg's 10 Tuning Tips article by clicking here.
I can't recall if I did "Always stretch strings for proper tuning" or not.
How much for adjusting the head and properly installing
on
I might also be interested in a good case.
I built the above in 1965 from Pete Seeger instructions. Cases at that time were very hard to find.
I would also like to get at least several hours of lessons from you.
I observe that players appear to use a lot less 5-th string than when I started.
