Printer sharing: Norton Antivirus Comcast First posted Wednesday March 3, 2010 07:12.

NAV is now configured properly: printer sharing working fine. Google and experimentation to the rescure.

Remote printing stopped working Tuesday morning March 2, 2010.

After doing some googling and experimentation, both the phenom and lenovo are printing on the toshiba canon printer.

NAV is causing the problem.

Now we have to look for a permanent, as opposed to temporary, fix.

Symantec chat room employees Vishal and Muhammed solution was to uninstall.

This left our phenom quad 4 desktop and Toshiba laptop connected to the Canon printer unprotected.

A taliban solution?

Printer sharing working with Norton AV installed. This only took almost all day Monday March 1, 2010.

We did the Glenwood Hills Neighborhood Association email and associated web pages before we started debugging printer sharing under NAV.

Method must be refined, however. I think we know what the problem is.

Keep in mind that we are dealing with enormous codes in terms of lines of code and complexity so this requires 'ceiling staring' while attempting to guess the source of the problem.

Whoops. XP professional machine having problems.

Got printer sharing running again unstalling Norton on phenom quad 4 desktop and toshiba laptop connected to Canon printer.

Norton was installed on Lenovo and printing worked fine.

Comcast was consulted and recommended reinstalling Norton. First we did this on the phenom. Then the toshiba.

When we try to print from the phenom we get

Here's a link for possible problem fix.

When we try to print from the lenovo we get an IP error message ... and no print.

Here's the final communications with first Vishal, then Rafi on Sunday February 28, 2010.

We saved intermediate portions of the chat too.

We've also notice trouble uploading to prosefights because Norton denied access.

Let's pursue.

Following instruction in the below email did not work.

McAfee remanined. So we decided to use 'chat' to try to resolve problem.

http://www.symantec.com/autotools did not seem to work for Vibhuti very well.

So we went to

So we went to http://www.norton.com/link

Below gave Vibhuti control of the mouse and keyboard while he saw a copy of the remoted computer screen.

It took about an hour for each of three computers to get Norton installed.

On the comcast page note the security label in the upper right.

Vibhuti clicked on it after removing McAfee.

Then Vibhuti had to copy a pin from the tail of a very complicated URL to paste into a PIN prompt complete installation of Norton.

We spent between about 13:00 to 16:00 upgrading from Comcast McAfee to Norton.

Comcast upgrade from McAfee to Norton didn't work. Vibhuti Nath from Symantiic got it working.

We asked Vibhuti if Symantic had to do this for all Comcast customers. Vibhuti responded, yes.

Another calamity.
