· 04/02: Jessica began a major de-shelving project
this morning. She hasn’t said where
she plans to re-shelve the books. · 04/04: We met Kiwi the parrot today, at the Wild
Birds store. Jessica was
thrilled. But she was a bit taken
aback when the bird made a loud squawk.
She got a little scared, and pulled in close to Dad. When one of the
storekeepers came over to play with Kiwi, Jessica slowly regained her
confidence and got quite excited again.
I had to struggle to keep her from getting her fingers too close to
Kiwi’s beak – to avoid any other surprises. · If you
ask Jess to clap hands, she does. She
can now respond intelligently to many different questions, like “where are
Jessica’s ears?”; “where are Jessica’s books?”; “where is the ceiling fan?”;
“where is Munching Mike?”. In each
case, she points to the appropriate item. She even points in the right
direction when the object in question is out-of-sight, which I thought was
impressive. It is a real pleasure to
see her cognitive skills developing, and to watch as she learns to associate
words with various things. I think
it’s fun for her too, because it allows a lot more interaction between
us. · When we say certain words, or sounds, Jessica will
repeat them; for example, Baba, Dada, B’gga (a Jess word), Daddin-Daddin,
(also a Jess word). Ask “what does a
snake do?”, and she replies, “sssssssss”. · 4/13: We celebrated Jessica’s birthday today, even though it
was really on 4/10. Many thanks to everyone
who made it a great day! · Jessica can now balance on her feet for short periods
of time, without holding on! ·
