Still not finished, but enough progress to be worth posting.
New OpenSPC library snapshot
A full changelog is included in the archive. Briefly:
- Code reformatting
- Substitute autotools-generated build scripts for old handwritten
Makefiles
- Updated SNEeSe SPC700 core to version 0.841
- Implemented a correct noise generation algorithm based on actual
hardware tests rather than just calling rand()

Well, I don't know when I'll get around to getting this done, so I'll go
ahead and post this unfinished preview of things to come...
OpenSPC library prerelease
snapshot (please read enclosed docs)
2-13-03
Updated the programming page with some more recent, more impressive stuff.
Oh, and BTW, when I said pay attention for updates soon, I meant 'not so
soon.' Hopefully now though I can call it soon.
9-9-02
Updated the website with OpenSPC linux version .301, which Chris Timmerberg
gave me a long time ago, but I forgot to ever post (whoops!). Anyway, pay
attention for more updates soon.
4-17-02
Cleaned up some aspects of this site that were about three years out of date
(ouch!). Not everything has been updated, just the most blatantly wrong
information was either fixed or removed.
9-28-99
OpenSPC full, lite, and source v.301 released. See the SNES page for what's
new. Due to time constraints I was not able to test this release as
vigorously as I normally do, so if you find I've made some stupid mistake (as
I normally do), let me know and I'll correct it as soon as I can.
9-19-99
OpenSPC linux v.300 released. I apologize for taking so long to put this up,
as Chris had submitted this to me a while back but I never got around to
putting it up, due to being so busy here at college.
Also, I've had a few contributions toward v.301 submitted that I need to go
over and integrate together, but also haven't gotten around to, and I have no
idea when I will. :( I know its not going to be for several days, at the very
earliest.
8-14-99
OpenSPC full, lite, and source v.300 released! See the SNES page for more
info.
Also, I am leaving for college in 2 days. As of this time forward, please
direct all mail to me to the address
bmartin at umr dot edu. Any mail sent to my
previous account may or may not make it to me, depending on if my mom feels
like forwarding it that day... The homepage will remain here for now,
although it may move sometime in the future.
6-8-99
Chris just updated his linux port again, to fix a bug in the IT dumping. It
should work now.
5-29-99
Chris Timmerberg has just completed his port of OpenSPC to linux! Although he
used the lite version to port, he made some changes of his own to it, allowing
it to play audio realtime through /dev/dsp. It can also capture to an IT,
a WAV, and/or another utility (via stdout) at the same time! If you use linux
and have been waiting for an SPC player you can use, here it is! Precompiled
binary (glibc only) and source are included in one archive, available from the
SNES page. Although it has not been tested on any other platform, it may even
be possible to compile this on other X86-based platforms using GCC.
4-10-99
Released OpenSPC v.200 full version and the source to both! The SoundScape
bug never did get fixed, so that driver is currently broken until some nice
person with a SoundScape board comes along and fixes it for me (hint hint).
Also, updated the EXE for the lite version with some different compiler
options, which makes it somewhat faster, and smaller. The version stays the
same because the source was not changed. If you already have it, more than
likely its not worth the redownload.
3-14-99
OpenSPC v.200 *LITE* release! This is a version for dumping directly to disk,
in either WAV or IT format. It contains no sound or graphics drivers, and
simply writes the data to disk as fast as it can. Go to the SNES page for
more info on what's new.
Side note: The OpenSPC v.200 full version will be released shortly, as soon
as a recently discovered bug in the new Ensoniq Soundscape driver is fixed.
8-6-98
OpenSPC release! Initial version is v.100. Go to the SNES page for more
info and download.
8-1-98
My webpage has gotten a makeover. Basically, I added a MODPlug Jukebox to
show off my upcoming program OpenSPC, and I rearranged the contents a little
bit. Also note: the Free64 project is no longer being worked on. However,
there is a new up-and-coming C64 emulator, Come Back 64, being developed by
Johan Fitie' and myself using much of Free64's code. You can find a link to
it on my newly added links page.
7-13-98
Whoops! It seems I made a small mistake in my BRR doc, the number above which
the nybble is negative should be 7, not 8. This has been corrected.
3-9-98
Added an Info section, under which you can find my new BRR doc(yay!), a speed
comparison between ZSNES and SNES9x, and the FAQs for SNESSOR and Free64.
2-18-98
SNESSOR 2.1 release, adding sample replacing! See the SNESSOR page for What's New.
1-30-98
SNESSOR 2.0a bugfix release! See the SNESSOR page for What's New.
1-28-98
SNESSOR 2.0 release!
See the SNESSOR page for What's New.
1-9-98
I like the way the SNESSOR FAQ has kept me from answering the same question
over and over again, so I have made a long-overdue Free64 FAQ. Please visit
it if you have any questions. It is available from the Free64 page.
12-31-97
SNESSOR v1.1 Release!
See the SNESSOR page for What's New.
12-19-97
OK, I got 22 e-mails just today, and 3 more by the time I got done responding
to those, so I'm setting up a FAQ page for SNESSOR.
If you have a question about it, please read the FAQ first. Also, there was
some confusion about what SNESSOR does, because of some ambiguity in the
paragraph below. SNESSOR does NOT rip MOD files, it rips samples, which it is
then possible for you to use in your own MOD-type files. I have reworded it
to avoid this confusion, and I apologize for the ambiguity.
12-17-97
NEW PROGRAM! For anyone interested in SNES emulation, you'll want to check
this out. Did you ever want to have the actual sounds out of your favorite
video games? Maybe you would like to have "Hydouken!" as a system sound, or
you would like to make a MOD file of some video game music using the original
samples. With this program, all these things and more will be possible!
Simply click on SNESSOR in the menu bar to the left.
Development of Free64 is currently on hold, but I am NOT planning on
dropping the project.
9-24-97
Due to one request, I have reposted UNO on this site. If you are watching for
another release of Free64 (Hehe, yeah right), it may be awhile, I'm not making
much progress, and whenever I can't figure something out a little Quake Team
Fortress sounds better and better.
8-12-97
I've decided to become trendy and put a counter and maybe a guestbook on my
page. Counter is up now, I am looking for a guestbook...
8-9-97
Free64 has been released! Current version is v.01.
