SNESSOR FAQ

How do I read the SND files?
or
The samples I get are all distorted!
or
Windows can't tell what kind of sound file it is!

I recommend using a utility such as GoldWave, which can be found at http://www.goldwave.com. Using GoldWave, simply go to File/Open, and choose the .SND file you want to load. GoldWave will now ask you what format the sound file is. You need to specify 16-bit signed, mono. You will have to experiment to find the bit rate yourself, but a good starting point is 8000Hz. Byte Swap should NOT be clicked (INTEL byte order.)
Alternatively, you could simply save the samples as WAV files.

I can't figure out how to dump the MOD files!
or
My MOD player can't open the output!

SNESSOR does NOT rip entire musical scores. It rips SAMPLES, like speech, sound effects, or instrument samples. There is always the possibility of the use of SNESSOR to obtain samples to use in a MOD-type file of your own creation. SNESSOR does NOT write MOD, S3M, IT, XM, MID, or any other type of music file.

Have you ever thought about writing a MOD/MIDI ripper for SNES ROMs?

That would not be possible, at least not easily. It is not possible to simply search a ROM for music and rip it, because every game could store it differently. Therefore the only way to go about it would be from an emulator. I am considering the possibility of an SPC-ONLY emulator that would load in SNES9X or ZSNES savestates and output to a MOD file, however I am not even sure it is possible, and if it is, it won't happen for a while.
