The Markets The markets are always in flux. New ones rise, old ones fall. Sometimes it happens in dramatically succinct fashion. Here today, gone tomorrow. Be sure to keep up on the current state of the markets, and know where you are submitting, and what kind of material they accept. Below are two tools I highly recommend: They do all the homework for you. Well, most of it anyway. Once you've identified your core markets, it helps to get your hands on sample copies. Nothing will prepare you better to submit to a given market, than reading that market. Submitting blindly can work, yes, but editors are pretty savvy; they can tell when someone is shooting in the dark. Spare them and spare yourself.
