Brian's

Rotary Locost

This is a web page chronicle the trials and tribulations of my building a Locost.  What is a locost?  A locost is a minimalist 2 seat car based on a Lotus Seven. The trick is it is mostly home made.

How did I get myself into this? Well I have always been a fan of small cars especially sports cars. Most of the time those cars ended up being British MGs Triumphs that sort of thing. This eventually led me to find out about Colin Chapman and his company Lotus.  Anyway in my searching of information on Lotus cars I came across sites for the things called Locosts.

This whole locost idea was started by a guy by the name of Ron Champion. You see Mr. Champion's son wanted to buy a kit car as they are cheaper than buying the real thing. The problem is even the kits are real expensive. Ron being a mechanical person said "Why buy a kit? I bet we can make one for about 250" 250 being British pounds. They did it then Ron decided to write a book about how he did it so anyone else that is interested could do it. Build your own Sports Car for as little as $250 - AND RACE IT!

That brings us to me making this web site as I go about trying to accomplish this task.  As it stand today 250 Brit. Pounds is roughly equivalent to 450 US. Dollars.  Do I think I can do this project for that little? Nope, no way. My estimation is that it will cost me $1200 - $1500.

Well that enough yapping for now go check out the donor car a 1980 Mazda Rx-7 LS.
