In 1999, Tom began publishing "The Conservatory Newsletter", which he makes available to conservatory manufacturers and architects in Canada and the United States. His purpose is to expand research on conservatories and establish dialogues with companies and individuals involved in the design and fabrication of conservatories. Some topics reviewed in the newsletter include - "Can Birds and Greenhouses Co-Exist?"; Conservatory Accessories; and, Conservatory Profile: Recent Restorations - E.A. Haupt Conservatory. This publication will soon be available on the Internet. |

In addition to conservatory designs, Tom also includes orangeries in his portfolio. An orangery, as shown in the sketch (below) consists of conventional construction with multiple doors and a glass roof. The original function of these structures was to protect or 'conserve' the citrus (orange) plants imported by English nobility and aristocracy during the 16th century. |
