In a few cases, groups of locomotives with parallel histories are listed together. Locomotives have been organized into groups with common specifications, and each group has been assigned a "group number". Detailed specifications for each group are given in then next chapter. References to sources are given in this section in abbreviated form to conserve space. Full citations can be found in the bibliography.
