Everything that we've learned about ponding so far is thanks to the folks at Water Gardening Magazine's online water gardening community message forum. They are simply the best with answers to anything & everything about ponding...from tiny pondsai like ours up to 50-100,000 gallons!

We are happy to have many mosquitofish in our ponds...here in Alameda County you can get them for free from the Dept. of Agriculture: Click here for more info.

2004 Pictures:
Memorial Day, May 31, 2004 - I built an "insulation wall" along the exposed edge of the tub last month after a hot spell:

Notice all the mosquitofish...a few goldfish in this pic as well:

Picture of entire backyard system from above:

Some of the 16 goldfish currently in the bathtub:

The stream, looks better than last year with the WH just starting:

The frontyard container, now a plastic half-barrel:

Just mosquitofish, snails & a few plants so far:

2003 Pictures:
The finished ponds after one month July/August '03:

Our largest fish, two Shubunkins, Thing One (lower left) & Thing Two:

The upper pond with trickle tower/fountain in the extra shady summer configuration.
Too shady after the feather-leaf clover took over the whole upper pond:

The two small fantails in the upper pond:

Water Hyacinth six weeks after adding to the stream, this is probably
the largest of the blooms we've gotten this first year:

The upper pond with a windsleave on the TT, almost time for leaf netting 9/5/03:

Edge of the top pond, showing bulkhead drain into the WH filled stream 9/5/03:

Current wide-shot of the tub, stream & top pond 9/5/03:

Floating Heart to the left & common floating clover to the right...closer look
at how the stream enters the bathtub pond 9/5/03:

Goldie & Spot performing...I just liked this picture... 9/5/03:

Front yard container with a little gravel TT/fountain, this tub has been
a beneficial bacteria farm 9/5/03:

New front yard container with the original 1 gal. trickle tower,
hyacinth, calla, horsetail & trickle tower. 10/4/03:

With 6 super-hardy mosquitofish in this I don't have to worry much about WQ but so far,
it's been quite clean (thanks to the 1 gal. TT no doubt.) It also has a tiny beckett pump
in a tiny biofilter box. 10/4/03:

This is after racoon(s) came & got all the goldfish & the largest of the mosquitofish.
This was in the afternoon the next day after I repotted the plants & the water
was clear again. 9/12/03:
