Contents of Help File

The CORRE Blog is sponsored/operated by the Coalition of Oak Ridge Retired Employees  (CORRE) to facilitate the exchange of opinion about the current CORRE efforts to obtain reforms to the DOE Oak Ridge Contractors' Pension and Benefit  Plans, The blog consists postings of two types: Blogs and Comments on those Blogs. The blog is open (after a free registration) to anyone who adheres to the editorial policy; the input material is pre-screened by the editor. The current editor is Dave Mason and the current administrator is Pete Lotts. In addition to opinion interchange, the blog serves as a means of communication from CORRE to its membership concerning progress and event announcements. The blog is viewed as a supplement to the CORRE Website. The Blog uses WordPressInc Software.

 

Blogs are only as successful as their users make them, please participate. Use of the blog is an indicator of your support for CORRE and its objectives.

Novices may find a brief explanation of this blog helpful in navigating through its seeming mazes but don't give up; It gets easier. The primary blog functions merely display another part of the blog data base or some external information on the Internet. The Back button and, sometimes, the Exit button are frequently used. You shouldn't be able to do any damage except get lost. The communication with the editor is via e-mail except for Comments.

 

Administrator (admin) –The local person maintaining the blog software.

 

Archive – Dated or inactive blog entries and comments made available to the user on demand as an archive having a similar structure to the blog. An Archive may be accessed by day of the month.

 

Author – The originator of an entry or a comment submitted to the editor for posting.

 

Blog – Information, both original entries and comments on them, that is posted on a web site which is open to many authors and readers for the purpose of exchanging opinion and information about a well-defined topic. The blog is usually arranged in reverse input order of entries with the comments associated (by links) with the entry. Think of it as the record of an orderly conversation on a multi-person phone call. The term, blog, sometimes refers to a single blog entry.

 

Category – Entries are classified into categories based on content. Entries of the same category are reached by a clickable link at the end of the entry (Posted in xxxxx).

 

Comment – A statement about an entry or the answer to a question raised in an entry; there may be several comments for a single entry. The comments are reached by a clickable link at the end of the entry. (# Comment). A co,,ent is edited by the administrator.

 

Editor – The person responsible for seeing that all postings are within scope and conform to the editorial policy as well as the actual act of "posting".

 

Entry – An entry is the primary posting of a new blog topic or question. An entry is sometimes called a Blog or a Blog entry An entry is edited by the editor..

 

Feed – The one or more, chronologically ordered stream of entries and comments that have been placed on a blog. The current (since last feed) feeds are available to the user on demand (RP/Commands/Entries RSS and RP/Commands/Comments RSS).

 

Login – You must login (one time) to submit entries or comments but not to read. (Remember your password)

 

Post – v. The act of placing an entry or comment on the blog, this done by the editor, n. An entry and/or its comments.

 

Register – You need to register one time (painless) to submit entries and comments but not to read the bog.

 

Reply – Used as a synonym for "Comment"

 

Right Panel (RP) – The rightmost section of a blog screen containing clickable links to functions and useful information.

 

Scope – The scope of a blog is the range of topics which are accepted for posting; set by the editorial policy

 

Submission – An entry or a comment sent to the editor or administrator for posting.

 

Trackback – See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TrackBack_URL#Function. Trackbacks probably should be implemented by the editor for his use.

 

User – Any person, who reads, makes comments or submits entries to be posted by the editor. A user must be registered and logged in to make a comment.

This schematic structure shows some of the most important logical and clickable links in the CORRE Blog. It is intended to assist the user in navigating the blog. It is not the actual structure of the database. Navigation in and among the several lists is done by scrolling or by hyper-linkages (<-> .

The Right Panel (Navigation)

 

 
 

 

 

The functions and links of the Right Panel are the key to the navigation in the CORRE Blog and it contains numerous links to useful blog functions and information. The panel is displayed on the right with section titles and displayed link titles. The following are the section titles and displayed text of the most useful linkages. Novices should go to the Right Panel and experiment with the features of the Right Panel until they are familiar with them. The novice should then read the User help screens. You may as well register and login.

The displayed links in the image are active CORRE Blog links and may be used to enter the blog as a part of the tutorial.

Make it easier: Make a shortcut to CORRE Blog as your new preferred page (and tab to your browser's home page).

Assumed skills: scrolling a window, left clicking a link, back button, the exit button.

 

Users (readers) of the blog will need to know only a few basic instructions:

 

1) After entering into the blog, the entire list of active entries is accessed by simply scrolling down (up) the display.

Additional entries are available using the "previous entries" button at the bottom of the display

2) Comments about an entry are accessed by a "# Comment" link at the bottom of the display list, scroll down/up.

3) All the entries in the category of the currently displayed entry are accessed by the: "Posted in category" link.

4) The current month's archive is accessed by the RP/Archive*/"Link Calendar"

5) The past archives are accessed by the RP/Archive/"Monthly Links"

6) The Entry Feed is accessed by the RP/Commands/"Entries RSS" link

7) The Comments Feed is accessed by the RP/Commands/"Comments RSS" link

8) An Entry or Comment may be selected and printed or copied to the clipboard.

   Editorial Policy (See also RP/Pages/"Terms of Use" link

 

1) Scope: The scope of this blog is the DOE Oak Ridge Contractor's Retiree's Benefits Plans and related topics.

2) Attacks: There shall be no ad hominem (personal) attacks against any person or organization. Obscenities, expletives and deliberate falsifications are not permitted. Criticism of the actions and statements of persons or organizations and other matters of substance may be as severe as the foregoing will allow.

3) Editor: The editor is the final arbiter of conformity with appeal to the CORRE board.

 

 

   Submission Formats

 

1) Material shall be submitted by E-mail in computer readable format limited to the following:

   a) Comments are limited to ASCII text-only files (*.txt) prepared on MS Notepad or equivalent, MS Wordpad; MS Word, text only files, *.txt.

Comments are best submitted thru the "# Comment" function at the bottom of an Entry; Scroll to bottom and Login; Scroll to text (reply) form, input, edit and submit comment. Comments are edited by the Administrator.

 

 

 

 
 

 

 


   b) Entries may be prepared on MS Word or as equivalent text-only files (*.txt) or *.doc files limiting the formatting to: paragraph indentation, simple tables, Internet linkages, bold, italics,  ?????

 

Entries are best submitted as an E-mail to the Editor through RP/E-mail me: or RP/Pages/"Invitation to post". Entry suggestions (or Posts) are sent as an Email and are edited by the Editor.
