About OREJC: The Oak Ridge Environmental Justice Committee (OREJC) was formed in order to ensure the diverse membership needed to discuss the DOE/ORO Environment Management and its many facets, no topic is off limits. The active membership is about seven people who meet once a month to discuss concerns. While small in number, the membership also participates in other public participation organization and carry information and opinion to those organizations. OREJC tries not to duplicate the adequate efforts of other similar organization but rather focuses more on the "bigger picture", i.e., questions of management, of public interactions and acceptance, of omission and consistency. Insofar as possible, the discussions and conclusions are data-driven.

OREJC expresses it opinion through letters to agencies and to the news media and especially through its overlapping membership with other similar organizations who ensure that these organizations consider the subject adequately. Letters to the news media may be in response to other public opinion or DOE actions.

OREJC is pro DOE in the sense that DOE is the responsibile party for Oak Ridge Reservation (ORR) remediation and it is best for all that they do it well. Nevertheless, OREJC will not hesitate to provide criticism of DOE actions and methodology hopefully with a suggested alternative when warranted. Other agencies get equal attention and treatment.

There are no requirements for membership except for the willingness to participate and work toward a successful and reasonable ORR remediation program. There are no dues and OREJC is unfunded. Other organizations are kind enough to provide meeting space and copying support.

About this Web Site:

The OREJC web site is a subset of the Le Potpourri Pages of Nuclear Waste Disposal at ORR maintained by A. A. Brooks. The web site is a part of the Comcast e-mail service and has all the space limitations characteristic of such a site. This accounts for the space limitations which in turn makes the use of text almost mandatory though existing graphics can be included by linkage. Extensive background information should be included by linkage also when possible.

This site contains linkages to local bookmarks in the same file, to files on this web site and to foreign websites. There is a Return or Goto command for bookmarks and the browser BACK command should be used for other link returns

The Topical Index is primarily based on document titles or subject matter.

Authorship of each posting must be established and any approval by an organization must be so indicated. Pages which have been adopted by OREJC are so indicated in the Title_index.htm file and the web page. These pages represent a majority OREJC opinion.

This site picks up in the middle of things; both current and past articles will be added as time permits. Materials in the old OREJC web pages will the referenced.
