The Center for Disease Control Is Involved

On 11/23/97, the Knoxville News- Sentinel announced that the Center for Disease Control, on the urging of Senator Fred Thompson and a request by the TN Department of Health, is officially entering the ORR ill-worker investigation. Given the investigative talents of CDC which have earned them an international reputation, this is exceedingly good news. Further, the CDC was present at the recent public meeting and is aware of the workers' and publics' belief that this is a serious and difficult problem which will require a clinical research approach. Hopefully, the workers can now get the proper advanced medical attention and feel that the system has at last responded to their needs.

A great deal of the credit for this step goes to Mrs. Sandra Reid who has championed this cause for several years. Several ill-workers also have patiently worked constructively toward this objective. All of them should feel justifiably proud.
