Leading teams to build effective systems, to create memorable events, to solve business challenges is my passion. I bring a strong technical background with education in the sciences, information technology, communications, photojournalism, videography, video production ( and post), network research, facilities operations, capital projects design, construction, commissioning and operations.
I'm comfortable working with a wide range of people including business and political leaders, professionals, crafts people, technicians, citizens, students, administrators, performers, creative professionals, artists, farmers, visitors, and the very young and very old. I enjoy developing the potential of an organization, buildning competency and inspiring people to achieve their goals, to answer the challenges that make life interesting.
My training and experience with the tools of management enable me to lead an organization to achieve a new level of operational competency and efficiency while tightening the controls and building the profitability. My track record is strong, typically reducing turnover, improving recruitment of top people, and developing the knowledge, skills and abilities of the incumbent crews.
My commitment to safety and environmental quality moved me to develop my technical safety competencies. I am trained in construction safety, high pressure systems, radiation safety, laser safety, biohazard, chemical hazards, high voltage, stored energy, fire safety, emergency response, hazardous waste handling, rigging, hoisting, and environmental remediation. I have developed and implemented safety programs that delivered real human benefits for a wide variety of organizations including scientists at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, construction at Cal State Hayward, and private business organizations.
My research interests have included satellite data systems, high energy density physics, plant tissue culture, materials science, network security, intrusion detection, video over IP, voice over IP, multimedia systems, distance learning, construction management web based systems.
My project experience includes work at every phase of a project from the early feasibiltiy studies, schematic design, and through the design development and construction document phases, bidding, construction administration, commissioning, and operation of both conventional facilities as well as clean rooms, particle accelerators, biomedical research, materials research, agricultural research, network laboratories, conventional housing, business office buildings, network switching center, University Union, seismic retrofits, pipelines, ranch development, and the construction and integration of a 20M network spanning dozens of buildings over a 20 mile area. I have handled highly complex multiphase work, including project planning and management, hiring the firms to do the work, responsible for scope, schedule and budget.
My wide experience base has some common threads : I like to solve complex technically challenging problems, I enjoy working with a team of diverse people to apply our unique capabilities to the business need, and I want to learn from every new assignment. My service orientation and ability to handle planning and execution on large programs has enabled me to accomplish difficult tasks within challenging resource allocations.
