The Crystal Method/Audi trip
This story is about an unintentional weekend I ended up spending in Seattle with
two friends, Josh and Schilling (like Kramer we usually refer to him by his last
name. His first name is also Bryan, like mine, so it makes things easier). I met
Bryan I think either in first or second grade. From what I can remember we were
in the same class and had the same name and being 6 years old this was enough in
common to become friends. I've known Josh since kindergarten, again from being
in the same class. Josh and I didn't really become close friends until about
high school in band classes, where the three of us, Bryan, Josh and I, would
spend most of our time mocking the rest of the band members as though we were
somehow above the other band dorks. So I can say that we have spent a lot of
time together on band trips, band class, marching band, concerts, and yes band
camp and just the regular hanging out that we know each other very well and are
quite comfortable with each other.
For the purposes of this story let me first describe each of us. Josh sometimes
doesn't think of all the details when he's doing something. He more or less does
something and knows everything will work out in the end. Bryan will at
least try and plan something out but then in the end he some how gets details
wrong or nothing ever goes right. It is quite amazing to join Bryan on something
he's planned, even on things that seem to be planned very well and to watch
things just go totally in the shitter. The best part is both of them are very
confident in the decisions they make and always think "what's the worst that
could happen?". Me on the other hand am paranoid and plan everything out in
detail. Usually making a timeline of events, travel times (over estimating just
in case), weather and phone numbers. I pretty much can almost take the fun out
of anything. It's probably only my attention to detail that I think that Bryan
and Josh don't have any attention to detail. This trip teetered on these
differences and eventually toppled.
It all started when in March I get an e-mail from Audi (I've been getting
e-mails from Audi ever since I bought one and usually skim them for something
interesting). I was very intrigued by this e-mail because it was an invitation
to Audi's annual convention in Seattle, WA where they bring in their entire new
line of cars for the upcoming year and have them available to test drive, in
this case it was their new 2007 line up. Now anyone who knows cars knows that
this meant the 2007 RS4; a 420hp(not turbo charged), 0-60 in 4.5s, all wheel
drive rocket. I knew it was Josh's goal to get one of these so I immediately
called him to see if he wanted to go. On the phone Josh gave the, "umm let me
check my schedule", which meant yes I'm going, I just need to see how I can
weasel out of what ever boring thing I have on that day. He's calls me back
shortly and says he will go on one condition, if we can go to the Crystal Method
concert in Seattle the day before. And of course no one needs to twist my arm to
go to a Crystal Method concert so I RSVP'd us for the event. I soon talked to
Bryan and he was very intrigued and said he was also down. So the three of use
were on for the Crystal Method concert on 5/19 (Friday) and the Audi convention
5/20 (Saturday)!
