my live-a-board boat dives

the conception
the peace
the horizon

the conception (right) is a 79 foot boat with bunk capacity for 46 people. it was launched in 1981 and departs from santa barbara. multi-day trips on the conception include breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and tons of snacks. live-a-board boats are not ideal for dieters with all of the delicious and plentiful food! the trips do not include any dive equipment but do include air-fills.

most dive trips depart and sail throughout the night so divers will wake up at the first dive site of the day. dive sites typically start out deeper and get progressively shallower throughout the day. the conception's destinations include all offshore islands of southern california as well as the cortes banks when weather permits. Sometimes on the boat ride dolphins (left) or whales can be seen!

lobster

my live-a-board experience with the conception was a chartered trip to the channel islands with diver dans. we went at the beginning of lobster season, so there were quite a few lobsters (right) on board by the end of the trip!

the crew was very friendly and the cooks were very talented.

my conception dives are included on my logged dives page. a description of channel island dive sites can by found on my dive sites page.

the peace

the deckthe peace (right) is a 65 foot boat with bunk capacity for 32 people. it departs from ventura and sails throughout the channel islands. the trips do not include equipment but do include air-fills.

the deck is spacious to give every diver room to gear up before dives and for storage between dives.

the galleymulti-day trips include 3 delicious meals a day with unlimited drinks and snacks. the huge galley (left) is where most time out of the water is spent with its color tv/vcr.

one of the best highlights of this boat is its famous hot tub on deck that bubbles away 24 hours a day. nothing feels better after a cold dive than a dip in the tub!

my live-a-board experiences with the peace (right) were chartered trips to the channel islands with captain aquas. the crew was very friendly and experienced.

my peace dives are included on my logged dives page. a description of channel island dive sites can by found on my dive sites page.

the horizonthe horizon (left) is a 80 foot boat and departs from san diego. destinations include the channel islands and cortes banks. a nice feature this boat has are air-conditioned bunk rooms with 8 semi-private carpeted cabins. if you are as lucky as i was you may get one of these to yourself!

multi-day trips include some of the best meals i've ever tasted! the experienced chef, mark, has been satisfying horizon diver's appetites for 10 years. he has the reputation for one of the finest cooks on live-a-boards. the horizon has been voted in the top three for 'the best food on a live-aboard' in rodale's scuba diving magazine.

the rest of the crew is exceptionally friendly, often even giving skiff-rides back to the boat for divers (like me) that surface a little too far than comfortable from the boat.

my horizon dives are included on my logged dives page. a description of channel island and cortes banks dive sites can by found on my dive sites page.
