Support System for Absorber, Stack & Ducts - Arecibo, Puerto Rico
Design of two structural steel absorber access towers 13' x 14 ' x 42' high, connected by a 3' x 48' catwalk to a stack supporting tower 5' x 8' x 120' high. The two stacks are constructed of fiber glass; and because of their flexibility, required the use of the steel stack tower to provide lateral support for 150 mph wind loads. The connecting catwalk was utilized to integrate the stack tower with the absorber towers, thus taking advantage of the stiffness of the absorber tower to reduce the foundation loadings at the stack tower.
