ADOPTED!!   It's official. We delivered Tom to his adoptive dad today. Hopefully things will go well and this will be Tom Petty's forever home. He found a nice home with an 8-year old English Setter friend and doting parents.

I will always have a special place in my heart for him, and great admiration for him and all of the homeless dogs who endure the transitions of rehoming. I'm convinced they're really angels in disguise, sent to help us through this world and teach us how to live. We humans expect so much and most of them bravely and lovingly deliver. I don't know how they do it.

Tom has a clean bandanna and a took a bath in preparation for his job tomorrow.  He will be the official "dog" at a book signing in Richmond.  No, Tom did not write a book but he likes to attend any event that features air conditioning and petting.

A big day for Tom. He went to the dentist today.  He lost two teeth but gained more of a smile.  Tom has been sleeping since we returned.  He will probably be up early for his walk tomorrow!

Each day T.P. announces the start of his walk with three or four short barks. He likes to run the first two blocks.  I guess it seems more like a hunting party that way. I don't know how far he would like to walk because the girls and I turn around after nine blocks and head back home.

Returning home from dinner with friends we find that our guest has made himself at home. But that's why we have leather furniture.

We begin our day with a car ride.  In this car Tom doesn't even need to stick his head out of the window.

Then it was off to another adoption event where Tom made some new friends. His friends at www.Lostdogrescue.org bought him a shiny new blue collar.

Tom and our family watched Where the Red Fern Grows for movie night.  Tom especially enjoyed the first part where there are two blue tick hounds riding in a truck.  He seemed to actually be watching the screen for a while during the hunting scenes.

Tom and I go to a dog friendly mall in Richmond. Here Tom meets one of the locals before helping me shop for an anniversary gift.

During a road trip to the video store Tom learns that covering the air conditioner vent with your nose is almost as good as hanging your head out the window.

Getting along with the pack. The two girls that live here seemed a bit guarded at first, but eventually warmed up to Tom. I think they will be good friends!

Tom Petty does well on his car ride from the farm in Ashland VA to Northern VA.  Tom grabs a quick bath and we head to Petsmart for a nail clipping.
