Regional Chess Organizations
Oregon Scholastic Chess Federation (OSCF) - Find out more about this organization that sanctions state wide scholastic tournament, maintains a free-for-kids ratings database (NWSRS) along with Washington and other border states, and holds its first state championship in Oregon in April 2006.
Washington High School Chess Association - Information on all Washington scholastic events, some of which are open to Oregon kids, is published here.
Chess For Success - An Oregon non profit organization dedicated to promoting chess in Title 1 schools. Also sponsor a series of statewide regional tournaments followed by a state championship in March.
Northwest Chess - A cooperative effort between the Oregon Chess Federation and the Washington Chess Federation. Although most events are focused at adult chess, the organizations choose the national boy's and girl's representatives for the Denker Tournament of High School Champions and the Polgar Girls' National tournament. They maintain an excellent tournament calendar for both adult and scholastic tournaments, and publish the North West Chess magazine.
Chess Clubs in the Area
Clatskanie Chess Club - Located in Clatskanie, OR, about 1.5 hours northwest of Portland on Rte.30 on the Columbia river. The club holds several thematic tournaments a year, provides a variety of playing experiences for all ages and playing leves. Contact: Kate Taylor at 503-728-3754

Chess Instruction
Carl Haessler, Chess Coach - Three time Oregon state champion and Oregon native. Has coached nationally ranked players and teams since 1989.
