TOURNAMENTS
The club sponsors jointly or individually several tournaments a year. Here are the currently scheduled or planned tournaments for the 2005-06 academic year.
Starting the 2005-06 academic year, all club tournaments will be NWSRS rated. The NWSRS site has a detailed description of the new North West Scholastic Ratings System, how it works, and how you can get your "free" rating.
Also, starting in April 2005, Cooper Mountain Chess Club became a founding affiliate of the Oregon Scholastic Chess Federation (OSCF). The OSCF sanctions statewide qualifying tournaments, some of which will be run by the Cooper Mountain Chess Club. Please see the OSCF Web Site for a detailed list of events.
Cooper Mountain Year End Tournament (April/May 2007)
Soccer Season Scholastic Quads and Round Robins - these NWSRS and USCF rated tournaments are co-sponsored with the Portland Chess Club. These are typically held on three or four Sunday afternoons at the Portland Chess Club. Congratulations to the many players who qualified for the 2006 OSCF State Championship Tournament through these events. Cooper Mountain/Whitford Scholastic Tournament - The third annual event co-sponsored with the Whitford Middle School, will be held at the Whitford Middle School on March 3rd, 2007. Both NWSRS and USCF rated events will be offered. A flyer can be downloaded here.
National Chess Day Girls' Only Challenge: This tournament held on Oct. 9 was a successful event, with 44 girls from around Portland participating. Five events were offered, and everyone received a prize, including a total of 17 trophies. Results may be viewed on www.nwsrs.org or www.oscf.org
