I Enjoy Being A Boy (In Love With You)
By: The Banana Splits
(Joey Levine - Marc Bellack)

1969

I live in a cucumber castle
On the bank of a cranberry sea
And starfish dance under my drawbridge
And black birds make nests in my tree

I enjoy being a boy in love with you
I enjoy being a boy in love with you
In love with you girl
Oh, ye-yuh

I live in a purple plum mansion
In the midst of a strawberry stream
And mel-lif-erous bells ring out softly
From a hill of vanilla fudge cream

I enjoy being a boy in love with you
I enjoy being a boy in love with you
In love with you girl
Oh, ye-yuh

La-la-la-la-la
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
Baby, I enjoy being a boy in love with you
I enjoy being a boy in love with you
In love with you girl
Oh, ye-yuh

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

ANDY RATING:

A Bubblegum classic. Covered by REM, Rank Amateurs (My 80's group), They Might Be Giants, Pink Filth and -- no doubt -- countless others. Without this song, The Banana Splits would have been nothin'!

NOTES:

. . . the only Banana Split song written and sung by Joey Levine . . . the word is MELLIFLUOUS meaning smoothly and sweetly flowing, the lyrics (reprinted above) on the back of the original EP had it misspelled . . . use it as your Word-Of-The-Day at work tomorrow . . . Len in Las Vegas contends that "while the word "mellifluous" does indeed mean what you say it does, there's no reason for an unconnected observer such as myself to believe Mr. Levine intended to use it instead of the perfectly fine word "melliferous" which means "honey bearing." In fact, that word's meaning fits better with the extended dessert metaphor running through the song than does the "flowing" of
"mellifluous" . . . good job Len! I think you were the guy sitting next to me in my senior poetry class -- the one not sleeping! . . . anyway, if you have any interest in experiencing Psychedelic Bubblegum Music, this is the song for you . . .
