Sausalito (Is The Place To Go To)

Crusin' 'round 'round fell out of my boat
Swam around swam around started to float
Floated 'round 'round came in on the flow
There I found, there I found Sausalito

You can be green it's all in the view
Every shade marmalade every hue
Houses on stilts grow out of the sea
Everything's growin' there, it's growin' for me

You gotta go there, everything grows there
When you get high on a mountain it snows there
Everything's groovy like in a movie
Sausalito is the place to go to

Sunnin' all day, lovin'all night
Write a bit, fight a bit got it just right
Music and flowers the sight and the sound
Fish a bit, wish a bit magic's all 'round

You gotta go there, everything grows there
When you get high on a mountain it snows there
Everything's groovy like in a movie
Sausalito is the place to go to . . . now

You gotta go there, everything grows there
When you get high on a mountain it snows there
Everything's groovy like in a movie
You gotta go there
You gotta go there

ANDY RATING:

There are few more finely crafted bubblegum pop songs out there and that two of my favorite groups joined (Ohio Express & 10cc) -- sorta -- to bring it together makes me long for a reunion. No argument, this is a Top Five Classic Bubblegum song!

NOTES:

. . . another Urban Legend has it that Joey Levine sang this song . . . no, that's Graham Gouldman, future 10cc bass player, singer and songwriter, paying the bills by hopping on the K&K train to Sausalito . . . that Mr. Gouldman doesn't look upon this song fondly is surprising because he's never been better before or since . . . and you can bet that his fellow 10ccers are backing him . . . listen close and you'll hear a distinctive American Indian rhythm . . . Sausalito does indeed exist. By consulting a map, I find it in California though neither Rand nor McNally opine that it is indeed "the place to go to . . . now" . . .

Some thoughts from a fan of Sausalito (the City):
"I wanted to write to let you know that Sausalito is truly the place to be.  I just got back from a trip to San Francisco, and me and my Sugar-Sugar got to eat at a restaurant called Valhalla that is right on the shore of the San Francisco Bay, eating a great meal while we watched the sun go down over the Bay.  While we were there a "tall ship" from about 1800 went through the Sausalito harbor.  WE think some celebrities were getting married on board this classic antique sailing ship, since we say a video crew of 6 people jump out of a limo to run down to the dock to catch them going by. Sausalito is the first city north of the Golden Gate Bridge, North of San Fran., and includes the Bay with its harbor, and it also has mountains.  The nice houses are perched way up high in the mountains next to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, so they have a view of the Bay and the ocean and San Francisco and Alcatraz.

We are now dreaming of retiring some day and living in this very cool city by the Bay, Sausalito is the place to be."
