Plug the free end of the Y cable into the adapter board. Your board will already be wrapped with a pink insulating sheet - don't unwrap it. Once the Y cable is plugged into the adapter board it has 12V power connected to it, even when the car key is off. You may see a small spark inside the connector when you plug it in - this is harmless.
