The Jensen CD/MP3 player is controlled by the touch-screen as well as the dashboard buttons. To turn on the CD/MP3 player, simply push the "DISC" button on the dashboard. Pressing "FM", "AM", or "TAPE" will select those functions instead (provided by the factory stereo) and turn off the Jensen player. The volume is controlled by the volume control knob on the Prius' dashboard, which also acts as an on/off control (by pushing it). The Jensen volume should be set at 32-35 when it is first installed after which it should be left alone. The idea is to match the volume level when switching between disc and radio play.
To skip a track forward or backward, you can press the up/down button on the Prius dash. Pressing the right side of the button skips up a track, pressing the left side skips down a track. You can also use the up/down arrow buttons on the far right of the audio display screen.
To skip up/down a folder, press and hold the dashboard up/down button for a few seconds. To skip several folders, press the "Disc" button on the dashboard, and then within 2 seconds the up/down button. Each up/down press will skip a folder and also renew the 2 second window. Once 2 seconds has elapsed, the up/down buttons return to their track-skip functions. If the "Audio" display is up on the touch screen, the "Disc Scan" button will light up during the 2 second window. This button also works like the "Disc" button to temporarily allow folder skipping.
Touch Screen Buttons
The "Audio" screen buttons: "RPT", "RAND", and "SCAN" are all push-on, push-off buttons for their stated function. "RPT" will repeat the current song until it is turned off. "RAND" puts the Jensen into random mode. In random mode, the Jensen cannot skip folders, nor allow direct track access. Skip backward will only go to the beginning of the current song in random mode, but skip forward will go to a new random song. "SCAN" will cause each track to play for 10 seconds, then skip to the next track until the up/down button or "SCAN" button is pressed.
The "Disc RPT" button chooses a random number from 1 to 255 and starts playing the disc from that track. If the number is higher than the total tracks on the disc, the Jensen face plate will show "No Track" and the current song continues to play. If the number is in range, the disc starts playing at the beginning of the randomly selected song. This is only useful when you have a lot of songs on an MP3 disc, otherwise most of the time the number will be out of range.
The "Disc RAND" button selects random mode and also skips forward a random number of tracks, which slightly improves the random experience.
The number buttons 1-10 implement a "virtual juke box" for MP3 discs. They allow you to directly enter a folder number to start playing. The "10" button should be treated like a zero button, and the "11" button is not used. To start playing at the beginning of the 7th folder on a disc, just push the 7 key. To start play at the tenth folder press "1" then "10" (remember 10 is zero). Only MP3 discs can have folders, and you must burn your disc with a folder organization to be able to use this functionality. The number buttons can also be used for direct track access which works with either MP3 or regular audio CDs. To directly access a track, press the "Disc Scan" button, then enter the track number with the 1-10 buttons. For example, to go directly to the 107th song on the disc, press"Disc Scan", "1", "10", and "7". You must presses the number buttons within 2 seconds of pressing "Disc Scan".
The display always shows "Disc 11 track 1 0 min 1 sec", since no information besides the sound is sent from the Jensen to the car. Much more information including the artist and song name from the ID3 tags are shown on the faceplate of the Jensen unit. You also know what track is currently playing from its distinctive sound :-)
The "SOUND" button controls the bass, treble and fader exactly as for the radio.
All of these function work with the CD area door open or closed.
To eject a disc, press the eject button on the face of the Jensen. Insert a new disc in its CD slot.
